Common problems
I would like to start this section by mentioning that I am not a qualified reptile veterinarian and the information in this section is to give an indicator to what problems you may encounter whilst keeping chameleons in a captive environment. The information shown is by no means a replacement for veterinarian treatment; if you encounter any of the problems described below you must seek a qualified reptile specialist as soon as possible to give your chameleon the very best chance of a full recovery.

Chameleons are very good at hiding illness and usually by the time clinical signs of the illness appear it can be well progressed and require immediate treatment. The reason they do this is linked to predation in the wild, in the animal kingdom any predator would take full advantage of a weak or sick chameleon, for this reason they will cover up this weakness right up until the illness overwhelms them and they detteriate very rapidly and die.

This is why it is so important to recognize any issues with your chameleon as early as possible and always keep an eye out for behaviour outside their usual habits.
